Why it’s so hard to find a good audio editing tutorial (and what to do instead)
Have you ever felt like audio editing is just too complicated…
Or that no tutorial really explains things well?
You’re not wrong if you’ve felt that way.
In fact, I hear this from students all the time. And there are a few real reasons why this happens.
1. Most people start learning from the middle
Here’s what usually happens:
You just start recording your voice.
You watch a YouTube tutorial that says “apply these effects in this order.”
You follow the steps, and hey — it sounds better.
But the next time things don’t work, you’re stuck. Why?
Because you didn’t learn the steps before or after.
You don’t know what to adjust when something goes wrong.
And now, when you search for help, nothing matches your specific issue, because those tutorials were built for a narrow situation.
You feel lost again. And the cycle repeats.
2. Many great teachers give up early
Here’s a hard truth most people don’t talk about:
Teaching audio editing isn’t a very profitable business.
At least three excellent educators I followed have stopped creating tutorials and courses — not because they weren’t good, but because it’s a tough business.
If someone is a voice-over artist and great at editing, they usually realize…
→ Voice-over work pays way more than teaching audio editing
→ Course sales require constant marketing
→ And when they focus on VO, clients and work tend to come naturally
So over time, the best teachers stop teaching.
Which means fewer trustworthy resources for people like you who are trying to learn.
3. Experts forget what it’s like to be a beginner
Once someone becomes an expert, they often forget how confusing it all felt at the start.
They think:
“Everyone knows how to do that.”
“That problem is too basic to cover.”
“I’ve already explained this in an old video.”
But beginners don’t know.
They’re looking for the basics — the things that feel obvious to experts.
So the tutorials become too advanced, too fast — and they miss the people who need them most.
So what’s the solution?
The only real solution is this:
👉 Learn step-by-step.
👉 Don’t skip. Don’t shortcut.
👉 Connect the dots as you go.
It won’t take forever. But it will save you months of frustration later on.
If you’re using Audacity or Adobe Audition, I’ve created full, beginner-to-advanced bundles that guide you through everything, one step at a time.
Both bundles include courses, presets, walkthroughs, and workflows I personally use with clients — all designed to teach you real skills, not just recipes.
And if you want personalized help:
I’ll walk you through your setup, your voice, and the exact process that works for you.
