The biggest pain in audiobook narration
What to do to avoid this pain
Today, I had a conversation with a professional voice-over artist during my Premium Consulting session. He shared why he chooses to avoid audiobook narration work.
His reasoning made perfect sense and applies to anyone in the field. However, for him, the challenge is even greater since he primarily works on commercial voiceovers.
For example, a 30-second commercial voiceover can pay significantly more than narrating a two-hour audiobook.
But even if we set income aside, the real struggle for voice-over professionals—and even authors narrating their own books—is the time investment.
The Biggest Pain Point: Time
Recording and editing a single 30-minute to 1-hour audiobook chapter can take an entire day. Even for an expert, it might take half a day.
But how long should it take?
Recording time can’t be shortened—you have to read the text.
Editing and processing time, however, can be dramatically reduced. With the right techniques, an hour-long recording can be edited and processed in just 5 minutes!
How to Speed Up Your Audiobook Production
To achieve this level of efficiency, you need to master:
✅ Correct recording techniques
✅ Efficient editing workflows
✅ A properly configured macro tailored to your voice
If you’re serious about refining your audiobook narration skills, I recommend joining the Audiobook Narration Assignment Program.
You'll receive assignments as soon as you enroll and can complete them at your own pace. Whether you use Audacity or Adobe Audition, the choice is yours.
